Day 1

Morning

Begin in Munich’s Old Town, where bakeries and cafés reflect the start of festival season. The city feels different during Oktoberfest, with traditional food appearing everywhere from morning onwards.

  • Weisswurst breakfast with sweet mustard
  • Fresh pastries (Krapfen or strudel)
  • Light Helles beer in early tents or cafés

Afternoon

Head to Theresienwiese, the main festival grounds, where each beer tent has its own food identity. Lunch here is part of the experience, not separate from it.

What to eat & drink inside tents:

  • Roast chicken (Wiesn Hendl)
  • Pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe)
  • Bratwurst with mustard
  • Giant pretzels
  • Oktoberfest Märzen beer (served in Maß steins)

Evening

Evening is when Oktoberfest becomes most atmospheric, with music, lighting, and full tents.

What to eat & drink:

  • Shared Bavarian meat platters
  • Roast pork with dumplings
  • Obatzda with bread
  • Apple strudel or Kaiserschmarrn
  • Märzen beer (primary festival beer)
